Student internship scheme

What is the Student Internship Scheme?

The British Embassy Bangkok offers occasional short term (up to 3 months) student internships. The internships provide an exciting opportunity to work alongside embassy staff in our Commercial, Consular, Political, Visa, or Management Sections.

What would I be doing?

These placements offer candidates the challenge of working alongside embassy staff, conducting research, writing reports, undertaking translation, and providing administrative support.  Candidates would usually be allocated to a particular section, but have the opportunity to see the work of the rest of the embassy.

When do the placements take place?

The placements can take place at any time. Placements are usually from 1 to 3 months duration.

Do I get paid?

Unfortunately we are unable to offer salaried positions, but all candidates will receive a small daily allowance.

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible you must be a College or University student, or recent graduate. As we are unable to provide assistance with work permits it is unlikely that we could accept candidates who are not resident in Thailand.

Candidates must have a strong command of written and spoken English, be well motivated, have good communication skills and be comfortable working independently.

Furthermore, to enable the appropriate security checks to be carried out, you must have resided for at least three consecutive years in one country. All applicants must be aware that a lack of sufficient background information may preclude an applicant from being granted clearance.

How do I apply?

Before applying, applicants should read the information at the Areas we cover page on the website, which will help them to learn more about each section. Applicants should also state a preference as to which section of the embassy they would like to work in.

If you would like to apply please send a cv, covering letter, and copy of your ID Card or passport to the Assistant Management Officer at the British Embassy at Bangkok.Intern@fco.gov.uk. Candidates who are invited for an interview will be contacted. No feedback will be given on applications.
