Disabled access

disabled logo

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the embassy are keen to ensure that their buildings and services are fully accessible to disabled members of the public. Wherever possible we have made our buildings and services accessible. Sometimes however, this is not possible due to security or other restrictions. In these situations we will endeavour to provide a service or access to a building in an alternative way to ensure equality of access for disabled people. To assist disabled visitors, we have set out below details of disabled access at the embassy. We hope this information is helpful.

General physical access
Access to the embassy compound and buildings is constrained by security considerations and the current layout of access routes and facilities. However, reception and security staff are alert to the requirements of disabled visitors and will endeavour to ensure that disabled visitors are provided with appropriate assistance during their visit to ensure that they have access to embassy services.

  • Although most entrances are generally clear and unobstructed, wheelchair access from Wireless Road is not possible through the usual public access route so wheelchair users will be assisted to use an alternative gate.
  • The main entrance to the embassy reception area and Visa Section are accessible by 2-3 stairs or an access ramp. The Consular Section is located on the first floor of the building to, which there is no direct lift access. Consular customers will be directed to the main reception area where they will be seen by a member of the Consular staff.
  • A central staff lift serves all main floors, but access to the mezzanine or intermediate floors may be difficult .
  • There are a number of toilets which have been adapted for use by wheelchair users, but these are awaiting further modification to improve accessibility and use.
  • Parking can be provided for disabled visitors, but they must telephone ahead of their visit to arrange access.
  • Floor coverings are generally safe and even.
  • Handrails are generally available and easy to grip.
  • Most main doors are easily accessible to all users.
  • Lighting is generally good.
  • Emergency/evacuation arrangements are in place to assist disabled visitors.
  • Accessible public telephones are available in the public waiting area.

  • Signs are generally clear and easy to read;
  • Guide dogs are welcome.

Access for deaf or hard of hearing visitors

  • Minicom and textphones are not installed.
  • Staff do not use sign language, but Thai sign language interpreters can be arranged.
